Rain's writing and melodies in the aptly named "RIVER" made me think of a latter day Joni Mitchell, but with a haunting edge that allows her to showcase her composed yet boundless lyrical talents in songs like "Time Is the Killer." That one is especially resonant since the entire album plays wondrously like an ode to River himself--so appropriate because Rain's musical career date back to her brother's band Aleka's Attic. But with this CD she's also appropriately and magically channeling River. The size of his talent was exceeded only by the size of his heart. Rain captures that and more in a collection that makes her brother proud. Kudos, Rain!
